How to Use the Library Catalog

-------------------------------------------

Search by Location, Media Type, Subject or Surname:

To filter your search for a more manageable list of books:

1.  In the white block above the Catalog, use the arrow in one of the areas, "Location", "Media Type", "Subject"or "Surnames".

2.  Click on a specific category in the drop-down list to filter and narrow your search.

3.  To print the newly created list, you will need to highlight the list and follow the instructions of your specific device to print, using whatever Print Screen tool is available and then print, using the Print option on the device.

4.  Clear your search by clicking on the "X" in the black box in the bottom right of the white box. When the "X: is clicked, the complete library listing will re-appear.

Search by Author, Description, Call Number, Title, All Listed Fields

To begin your search:

1.  Click on the drop-down arrow for "Search" to choose "Author", "Description", "Call Number", "Title" or "All Listed Fields".

2.  In the Search Value box, enter the information (i.e., if searching by Author, enter the Author's name). Tip:  You don't need to enter the entire title of a book.

3.  Then, click the "magnifying glass" icon to start your search.

4.  Clear your search by clicking on the "X" in the black box. When you do this, the complete library listing will re-appear.

5. The Search option may be used separately or combined with any of the above filters.

6. Example - if you wish to find birth records from Hardin County, Kentucky: Select Kentucky under "Location", select "Birth Records" under "Subject", select "All listed fields" under "Search" and click the magnifying glass icon. Or, should you wish only to view all the books available from the author, Dollarhide, use the "Author" search field, type the name "Dollarhide" in the blank "Search Value" box and click the magnifying glass icon.

Important Notes:

Books with a call number containing an asterisk (for example 973 X23f 1930* ) are located in the black metal file cabinet under the printer.

Oversized books are in book case #15 and are noted following the title of the book.

If you are unable to find a book using the search options, and you believe it is available in the catalog, click the "X" and start over. Old information may be remaining in a search box.

Column sorting and creating and printing from a pdf file are no longer offered as an option.
