Every Library Has a Story
History
The Green Valley–Sahuarita Genealogy Library has seen several changes since its beginning with 200 donated genealogy books shelved in the home of a Green Valley Genealogical Society member. The collection was then moved to the corner of the Continental Elementary School Library. Growing to 900 books, the next home was a room at the Sahuarita LDS Church and available for the public to research.
After 22 years, it became apparent that the Library needed a more accessible location for its growing number of books, and comfortable tables and chairs for patrons to do their research. Otherwise, the Library was destined for closure.
Serendipity stepped in. Located in Green Valley, the La Posada Community adopted the Library, offering a generous space in their Shoppes area. The bookshelves are filled with 3,700 genealogy and history books which meet the needs of those working on family history, making it a true genealogy library. The public is welcome to research six days a week.
In recognition of this achievement, the International Federation of Genealogical Societies awarded the Green Valley–Sahuarita Genealogy Library their coveted Repository of the Year honor for 2019 and 2020.
As the Library grows, so will the history.
